glamorous NYE wedding at the benson hotel in portland or

A New Year’s Eve wedding. Is there anything quite as magical as kicking off a new year with an entirely glamorous evening?

When Sarah approached me about bringing her and Brandon’s NYE wedding to life, they (like so many COVID-era couples) were feeling the drag of constantly changing plans. Items on their checklist floating in and out of the ether, and the all-around feeling of “maybe, maybe not” solidified the need for someone to come in, ask the right questions, and make it happen without sacrificing any of the details that mattered (and let’s face it — they all do!)

After a site walk at the historic and incredible Benson Hotel, Sarah and I sat down to map out exactly what she’d like her guests to experience on New Year’s Eve. Sarah decided on floral rich in reds + plums from Portland sustainable florist Coy & Co. to add an old Hollywood feel to the already ornate and luxurious Crystal Ballroom. White pillars from Bridgewood Events adorned their altar, while gold (socially distanced) chiavari chairs from The Party Place gave the room that perfect finishing touch. Gold mercury votives lined the aisle to provide that magical ambience that only candlelight can create.

Custom masks + hand sanitizer were set out for guests after being greeted by a beautiful welcome sign penned by an Alston Mayger Events fave, Letters & Dust. Guests could also grab one of the incredible macarons made by none other than Stacey Choi of Hedonish Desserts. Flavors included salted caramel and hot chocolate as a nod to the holiday season.

Sarah was joined by her mom + sister for a morning of pampering with Vicky of Blossom & Beauty, while the Brandon got ready down the hall to avoid seeing his bride-to-be. Other members of the bridal party got ready offsite and arrived later for photos. The style on this day was absolutely un-matched. From the gorgeous floor-length bridesmaid gowns, to the classic suits on both the groom + groomsmen - not to mention Sarah’s stunning gown from The White Dress. Believe me when I tell you, I could live in this day forever.

Blessed with gorgeous skies perfect for capturing this first look, Christina Wolfer of Christina Wolf Weddings was able to get the most incredible photos of Sarah and Brandon’s first look, and entire day. Ron Thompson of Ron Gone Kabuki stood by to capture amazing video footage as well.

After the ceremony, immediate family was invited up to the Presidential Suite for an intimate dinner provided by El Gaucho. Though dinner service looked a bit different, we were still able to create a stunning tablescape for Sarah, Brandon, and their guests by re-purposing Sarah and her bridesmaid’s bouquets as centerpieces to punctuate rentals from The Party Place. A small cake was provided by the groom’s aunt as a treat to the newlyweds.

This glamorous NYE wedding is the epitome of the statement that, “just because you have a smaller guest count does NOT mean you have to sacrifice on style or luxury.” Sarah and Brandon sought to create a beautiful evening elevated further by luxe textures and delicious food, and we did just that!

Thank you so much for allowing me to bring your celebration to life, Sarah + Brandon!

XO,
Ashley
